The SB-Felt 25 Joist Strips are a cost-effective alternative to composite floating flooring for timber joists in new build and refurbishment projects. These strips have hardboard slats that provide a firm and smooth surface for chipboard, OSB, or plywood T&G flooring boards. They can also be used as part of a sound insulation system between separating floors.
Designed for impact sound insulation between separating floors, the SB-Felt 25 Joist Strips are commonly used in both refurbishment and new build projects with floating floors over timber joists. They are compatible with a range of SB-Systems that exceed current Building Regulation requirements. The strips consist of a double layer of 10mm SB felt™ resilient layer factory stapled to hardboard slats.

Applications
The SB Felt 25 Acoustic Joist Strip has a wide range of applications in various industries. Some of the common applications include:
- Soundproofing: The SB Felt 25 Acoustic Joist Strip is primarily used for soundproofing purposes. It helps in reducing the transmission of airborne and impact noise between floors in buildings. It is commonly used in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings to create a quieter and more comfortable environment.
- Flooring: The joist strip can be used as an underlayment for flooring systems. It provides a cushioning effect and helps in reducing the noise caused by foot traffic. It is commonly used under laminate, hardwood, and engineered wood flooring.
- Construction: The SB Felt 25 Acoustic Joist Strip is also used in construction projects for its soundproofing properties. It can be installed between walls, ceilings, and floors to minimize sound transmission and improve the acoustic performance of the building.
- Home Theater: The joist strip is often used in home theater installations to create a more immersive audio experience. It helps in reducing sound leakage and improves the overall sound quality within the room.
- Recording Studios: Recording studios require a high level of soundproofing to ensure optimal recording quality. The SB Felt 25 Acoustic Joist Strip is commonly used in recording studios to minimize sound transmission and create a controlled acoustic environment.
Installation
- Lay the strips end to end with hardboard pads facing upwards and staple them into the joist tops using 16mm staples. Do not fix through the hardboard pads. Install a length of SB-Felt 25 on the perimeter noggin at the end of the joist runs.
- Leave a 10-15mm expansion gap around all perimeters when planning the floor layout. Apply SB-Bond Panel Adhesive on each hardboard pad and lay the flooring boards on top in a broken bond fashion. Glue the flooring boards at all teegee joints board to board.
- Insert SB-Seal 20 Perimeter Seal into the perimeter expansion gap to ensure the floor floats freely from the walls for acoustic isolation.
Do not use any other fixings when fitting the floating floor as it can negatively affect performance. Fit skirting a minimum of two or three millimeters clear of the floor surface (PCT only).
