The SB-Batten 70 is a composite batten designed to reduce impact sound transmission between floors. It can be used to create a service void and support floating timber or chipboard floors. The SB-Batten 70 is compliant with Robust Details FFT1 over concrete and steel, and can also improve the performance of timber separating floors in refurbishment projects.
The SB-Batten 70 consists of 65mmx45mmx1800mm treated timber battens bonded to a 10mm SB feltTM resilient layer. It can be installed over timber or concrete floors and creates a minimum 70mm void as required for Robust Details. The overall batten dimensions are 75mm deep x 45mm wide x 1800mm long, with a maximum center spacing of 450mm using 18mm chipboard timber flooring, 600mm using 22mm chipboard/timber flooring, or as per Robust Details criteria.

Installation
- Lay the battens, felt side down, in continuous rows at recommended centers. Leave perimeter battens at the ends of the batten runs, ensuring they are isolated by at least 25mm from the walls.
- When planning the floor layout, leave a 10-15mm expansion gap around all perimeters. Fix the flooring to the battens using SB-Bond Panel Adhesive and secure with ring nails or screws. The fixings must not penetrate the resilient layer. Glue the flooring boards together at all teegee joints.
- Use SB-Seal 20 Perimeter Seal to fill the perimeter expansion gap, ensuring the floor floats freely from the walls for acoustic isolation. Alternatively, follow Robust Detail instructions using SB-RD Flanking Strip.
